Some birds fixate on one tiny detail — a knot, a tip, a thread to worry at. Without a safe target, that focus lands on feathers or cage bars, and a fixated bird is rarely a relaxed one.

This is Cognitive enrichment: a tangle of cotton shoelaces and aglet tips your bird unpicks, tugs, and shreds. Manipulating small parts engages the same fine beak-and-foot dexterity a foraging parrot uses in the wild, giving a sharp mind a problem to solve and busy feet something to hold. EnrichCove curates bird enrichment to a science-backed standard, so your bird can thrive with play that keeps it genuinely occupied.

  • Cotton shoelaces with aglet tips to pick and unravel
  • Soft, shreddable cotton — safe to tear apart
  • Hangs from most cage tops and play stands
  • Sized for small-to-medium birds and parrots
  • Refresh or replace as it's shredded down

Foraging offered freely — your bird picks it apart at its own pace.

How do I introduce this toy?

Hang it where your bird already perches and let curiosity do the rest — the dangling laces invite a first tug. Rotate it with other toys so it stays novel. Supervise the first sessions, trim or remove any frayed strands that get long, and ask an avian vet if your bird swallows fibers.

Give those clever feet and beak a project. Free US shipping over $49 · 30-day returns.

Shoelace Toy FAQ

What makes this good for birds? The cotton laces and aglet tips give an EnrichCove shredding toy lots of small parts to unpick — exactly the fine foraging work that keeps a bird's mind busy.

Is the cotton safe? It's soft, shreddable cotton meant to be torn apart; supervise and remove long loose strands.

What size bird? Small-to-medium birds and parrots.

Great toy!

Got this for "Crayola" (my sunny) brightly colored, well-made ... should be some time before she tears it up. But! That's what Sunnys do. I'm sure I will use this company to get more toys for my bird. and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. PS Yor bird will like it too!

Neat Toy

I have a rescue Goffin Cockatoo that hasn't had toys in years. I noticed he liked playing with the strings on one of the first toys I gave him. So I thought he might like this too. He likes sitting on his perch, reaching his foot back, and grabbing at the strings. He likes to play with a couple of other toys this way too. As long as he's having fun, that's all that matters!

Love this

My Quaker loves this! She spends hours daily playing with it. And she loves to nap under it. She thinks she's hiding. Best investment ever!

He lost his little mind.

My budgie Egret loves laces so when I saw this I had to get it. Usually he ignores new toys for days but as soon as he noticed this he went back in his cage and lost it. He was hanging upside down inside the middle with all the lacesMy female budgie isn't usually big on toys Ans even she joined in.I took this away a month also as I cycle toys, added ir back today and same result.

Finally a toy my birds love!

So many toys, so many fails. I don't know if my birds are picky or just have incredibly boring personalities. Finally they loved chewing the hard plastic casing off of this shoelace toy. It has extra plastic pieces and they are entranced.

Cockatoo's Favorite

My cockatoo loves tearing the plastic bits of shoe strings... This toy is her heaven! My other cockatoo likes to bite the strings off of the circle... It's not a problem. I give the loose strings to my girl & she is still quite happy to stay busy removing the plastic bits. I don't hang it in her cage as I don't want it gone within a week. I'll definitely keep her stocked with this one or the larger one... The larger one I bought at Christmas & it lasted 3 months!

Cockatiel loves this toy

Our cockatiel LOVES toying with laces and ropes, so we got him this toy. He loves the toy so much, that he actually let out a SHRIEK of rage when we moved it and he saw that it had "disappeared" (the only time we've heard him make this sound).
